New Beginnings
Greetings, dear reader. If this is your first time visiting the Idea Basket, I bid you welcome. If you visited this site in the past when the previous incarnation was still active, welcome back! It’s very exciting to have this new blog up and running, and I hope this one lasts. My biggest problem in the past was that I kept trying to make the Idea Basket a news site. This time will be different: posts will be short and frequent, and I’ll place more emphasis on my ideas and experiences with designing computer software and Web sites. Not that I consider myself an expert by any means, but I’ve been in this business long enough to have some basic notions of what works and what doesn’t. Better yet, I know of some great folks who are building stuff I admire greatly, and I’ll be sure to refer to their work and writings as well.
I’ll talk a bit about other things as well from time to time, but the main focus I envision for the Idea Basket is to discuss web software architecture — hence the site’s tagline. Why do I consider it an arcane art? I’ll be going into that at length as the blog unfolds; you can be sure of that.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by, and I encourage you to leave comments or send me an e-mail regarding the topics I discuss down the line. I’m one of those weird people who actually likes to hear from folks and listen to what they have to say.
Also, if you know of some really cool Web apps or computer products that show evidence of great design and radical simplicity, I’d love to hear about them.
God bless you all,
Jared

interesting idea for a blog and nice design… let’s see more! I think you’re right to be an idea site and not a news site: that’s too much like hard work keeping up with rss syndicators.
Good luck with xajax: I think one day I might understand that enough to find it very useful.

Thanks David for your encouragement…I’m very excited about some of the ideas I have for this blog now, and the emphasis on commentary alone rather than news should prove to be much more managable.
